Lost in the Woods

Child Survival - Lost in the Woods is a presentation originally published by the Search and Rescue Society of British Columbia and is based on the material "Lost in the Woods" by Coleen Politano. A Lost in the Woods presentation includes 9 survival tips for children if they find themselves lost. In addition, the presentation includes several experiments to demonstrate these survival tips. Various items are recommended for a child's Emergency Survival Kit and each item's use is discussed and demonstrated. A video shows the children how best to react if they are every unsure about where they area.
The program is an interactive one between instructors and children. It usually lasts about 1 hour. NASDA members give this program free of charge to elementary classes, boy and girl scout groups, church groups, and other children's organizations. NASDA also has additional programs aimed at younger/pre-school children that deals with being lost and found. For more information on this unique program, please

are available during school hours as well as during evenings and some
weekends. Lost in the Woods Tips for kids (and parents) - A definition of Survival: Staying Warm and Dry , while waiting to be found. If you are lost, there are friendly strangers who will help you. Some of these are police officers, fire fighters, ambulance personnel and Search and Rescue teams. Generally, these friendly strangers always work in groups. If you are planning on being outside, playing or hiking, take a jacket with you. This will help you stay warm in case you do get lost. Prepare an easy to carry emergency survival kit. |
