The North Alabama Search Dog Association wants to thank the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for awarding us a Polaris Ranger 4x4 all-terrain vehicle in their Q2 2015 Grant Cycle. This vehicle will assist us during search operations and training and allows us to deploy quicker and more safely. It also allows us an added measure of safety in removing hurt or injured dogs in the field. We can't thank the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation enough for their grant award! Firehouse Subs supports our local communities, fire departments and volunteer squads, and we couldn't be more excited about their support.

Petco Foundation Invests in NASDA's Service Animals

Grant of $2500 will extend efforts to help pets and people in the central and north Alabama areas serve their community and maintain the highest training standards.

[Athens, AL] (February 2016): The North Alabama Search Dog Association today announced it has been awarded a Helping Heroes grant from the Petco Foundation to support its training commitment for all handlers.

NASDA is a nonprofit organization specializing in using dogs to locate lost and missing people in the Alabama and southern Tennessee area. Since 1996, NASDA has responded to innumerable calls for assistance across the state of Alabama and southern Tennessee. We could not do so without our handlers commitment to training, both on the team level and in their attendance at outside seminars. The Petco Helping Heros grant will allow our handlers to continue this level of training, and this leads directly to better working teams.

The grant was made possible through the Petco Foundation's annual Helping Heroes fundraising campaign, in partnership with Natural Balance Pet Foods. During the campaign each October, customers are invited to donate in Petco stores across the country to support service and therapy animals and organizations.

The Petco Foundation has served as a voice for companion animals across the country since 1999. Today, with more than 8,000 local animal welfare partners across the country, the Petco Foundation donates approximately $15 million a year to make a difference in the lives of millions of animals. The organization is funded through donations raised during fundraisers conducted in Petco's more than 1,300 stores across the country, as well as from Petco associates, vendors and corporate contributions. Money raised helps fund animal welfare organizations, spay and neuter efforts, animal-assisted therapy programs and humane education. The majority of the funds raised remain in the communities where they were raised, as well as animal welfare efforts nationwide.
